Can Someone Explain

You know that commercial with John Malkovich for iPhones. I don't get it. I mean I get the commercial. I'm pretty sure that the over-arching message is that Siri is creepy, but maybe that's just because of my obsession with SciFi. (I prefer my talking computerized device that knows way too much about me to not make editorial remarks.) Anyway, what I don't get is the joke.

Two iPhones walk into a bar. I forget the rest.

Because you walked into a bar and bonked your nonexistent head?
Because you got so drunk you forgot?
What about the other iPhone?

I'm sure I'm over thinking this, but it is driving me bonkers.

Any help?

I don't get it either. But then, I"m NOTORIOUSLY stupid when it comes to jokes :)

I thought it was making fun of how very fragile iPhones are, and that there were two of them just because it would be a better facade for the joke--like you might be thinking of some possible joke scenarios when you heard that introduction, leaving you shocked for a second or two, whereas with just one iPhone, it would've struck you more as a bad pun, and right away. It would've caused you to boo or groan instead of saying "oh! I get it. You got me. " or whatever. Over analyzing is fun sometimes.

I believe the joke (and why Malkovich laughs) is that Siri is not actually capable of humor. And because Siri is incapable of humor (by stating that she "forgot the rest") it is actually "funny" in a meta self-referential way that is currently very popular with current neo-intellectual coasters.

I don't get it either but I have several friends that keep up with the latest trends in haute hipster world.

p.s. Your Mom is one of the awesomest people I have ever met. Seriously. My life is more rich for being blessed with knowing her.

I'm so glad I'm not the only one who doesn't get it!

Strangeite - Yes she is. My mom rocks. I totally want to be her when I grow up.
